The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has urged former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer Sedinam Tamakloe-Attionu to remain strong and accept her prison sentence following her extradition from the United States to Ghana.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily programme on Thursday, June 11, Vanderpuye said the former MASLOC boss should view her current situation as a setback rather than the end of her life.
He encouraged her to remain resilient and use the experience as an opportunity for personal growth and transformation.
According to him, many notable individuals across the world have faced adversity, including imprisonment, but later emerged stronger and went on to make significant contributions to society.
Sedinam Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in absentia in 2024 on multiple charges, including causing financial loss to the state and stealing.
The court ruled that actions taken during her tenure as MASLOC Chief Executive between 2013 and 2016 resulted in a financial loss of nearly GH¢90 million to the state.
In 2021, she was granted permission to travel to the United States for medical treatment while her trial was ongoing. However, she failed to return to Ghana to continue with the court proceedings.
As a result, the trial was concluded in her absence, leading to her conviction.
Following the ruling, authorities initiated extradition proceedings in 2025. A United States District Court in Nevada subsequently reviewed the request and approved her extradition after examining legal documents submitted by Ghanaian authorities.
The approval paved the way for her return to Ghana, where she is expected to serve her 10 year-sentence.
