The Minister for Roads and highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza talks about Major roads being worked on under the government’s Big Push initiative which will be tolled and opened to the public once completed.

He indicated that toll charges will also apply to the planned Accra-Kumasi Expressway, but stressed that motorists who do not want to pay will not be compelled to use it.

During the 2026 Transport Sector Review in Ho, Agbodza said the government has restored the Road Fund to provide a reliable source of financing for the maintenance of road infrastructure across the country.

He also urged the adoption of measures to limit certain heavy-duty vehicles from using some public roads, saying this would help prevent the roads from wearing out too quickly.

“We are taking steps to modernise revenue mobilisation through technology following Parliament’s approval of a 20 year public private partnership concession in July 2026.”

” The government is introducing a multi-level and free -flow electronic tolling system, and this system will be implemented on every public road that has been improved. ”

“Every interchange in our country will attract the attention of road tolling,  especially the Accra-Kumasi Expressway comes with it’s own tolling system.  Constructors have started returning to existing Accra to Kumasi bypasses, and in a few weeks all of them will be back on site”.
