Accra flood: Miracles Aboagye labels Mahama a weak leader

Dennis Miracles Aboagye & Mahama on

On the back of the recent flood in Accra, the communications director of the Bawumia campaign team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has launched a scathing attack on President John Dramani Mahama over the government’s handling of the perennial flooding situation in the capital.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on June 11, 2026, Aboagye described President Mahama as a “weak and confused leader,” accusing him of failing to deliver on promises made to address flooding in Accra.

According to Aboagye, President Mahama had previously assured Ghanaians that his administration would implement engineering-based solutions to tackle the flooding challenge. However, he argued that little progress has been made despite those commitments.

As part of his Accra flooding criticism, Aboagye referenced statements Mahama made while in opposition, including a Facebook post in which he pledged to bring about the change the country desperately needed. He questioned why those promises had not translated into concrete action since assuming office.

He urged the president to refrain from making promises that cannot be fulfilled, stressing that flooding remains a serious issue that threatens lives and property.

“As for flooding, if he fails, people will die, so don’t fail on that. I don’t expect flooding to end all of a sudden in Accra, but you can do something about it in the short term to ameliorate the effect. Then in the medium term, next year, we should not see flooding like we’re seeing today, and in the long term, you fix it,” Aboagye stated.

The former government spokesperson further argued that leadership requires accountability and practical solutions rather than excuses. Continuing his criticism, Aboagye questioned why the President appeared to be shifting responsibility to citizens despite being entrusted with the nation’s mandate and resources.

“Of all the millions of Ghanaians, you said we should give you our resources and mandate, and now you’re pushing back to me that people have built in the wrong places after following procedures. You are weak and hopeless, and you have no plan as a leader. That is where the problem is. You say one thing and do another,” he said.

His comments come amid renewed public concern over flooding in parts of Accra following recent heavy rains, with many residents calling for urgent and lasting solutions to the problem.
