Traders arrested with 37 slabs of suspected indian hemp-Ashaiman
Police in the Tema Region have detained a 49-year-old trader, Issaka Mohammed, after he was allegedly found carrying 37 slabs of compressed dried plant material believed to be Indian hemp.
The suspect was apprehended by officers from the Ashaiman District Police on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m.
His arrest followed intelligence received by motorbike patrol officers concerning an alleged Indian hemp dealer operating from a “ghetto” located behind the New Tulaku Cow Market.
Acting on the information, the officers moved to the location, where they intercepted Mohammed while he was carrying a sack.
According to the Police, a search of the bag uncovered the suspected narcotics.
“A search of the sack led to the discovery of the thirty-seven slabs of compressed dried plant material suspected to be Indian hemp.”
The Police said the seized items were counted in the presence of the suspect and have since been kept as exhibits for use during the investigation.
Mohammed remains in Police custody and is “currently assisting the Police with investigations”. He is expected to appear before the court “as soon as practicable.”
The Tema Regional Police Command has also appealed to residents to provide reliable information that could help identify individuals involved in the possession, sale or distribution of Indian hemp and other prohibited drugs.
The Police said information from the public would assist authorities in tackling offences connected to illicit drugs.
