The National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) has donated 1,000 exercise books to the Suame Technical Institute as part of its pension education sensitisation programme.
The NPRA indicated that the sensitisation program was designed to directly educate students and teachers on pension rights and responsibilities. The team educated teachers on the need to regularly check their Social Security and National Insurance Trust statements, and the Assured Pension plan.
Speaking during the program at the Suame Technical Institute, the Zonal Head of the National Pensions Authority(NPA) in the Ashanti region, Kofi Asare Abrokwah, said the National Pensions Regulatory Authority is mandated under the Act. 766 to sensitise and inform the General public about Pensions matters.
He explained that their visit to the Suame Technical Institute was specifically to have a direct interaction with both the teachers and the students about Pensions.
“We know that teachers will one day go on retirement, we know that students will become workers and will equally go on retirement, so we met the teachers, and we have taken them through what they need to understand and their responsibilities under the Act 766”, Mr Abrokwah said.
He added that educating students was relevant to ensure that they are armed with information before they start working.
“We have met with the students and taught them the fact that, when they are about to start working, they should think about their future because their pension starts from the first salary that they will receive, so that they will equally contribute towards their Pensions, and at retirement, they will enjoy”, he explained.
Mr Abrokwah further stated that the NPRA donated the exercise books to the institute to support teaching and learning.
“This will help enhance their ability to take notes, learn and study very well so that in the end they will come out as proper students and graduates who will help with the technical and ICT as well as the AI development in the nation and produce more businesses which will employ more people to enhance their ability to contribute to Pensions and enjoy a better Pensions when they go on retirement”
The principal at Suame Technical Institute expressed his gratitude to the NPRA for the donation of the exercise books and the Pension education given by the officials from the NPRA
“Personally, I have learnt a lot, I have learnt that I have to go and check my SSNIT statement every year to find out whether all my auto visions are going through or otherwise. I think this will help us to prepare for our requirements”, the principal stated.
