Nii Lante Vanderpuye Resigns as DRIP Coordinator

Nii Lante Vanderpuye has resigned from his position as National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), with the ambition to pursue a senior leadership role within the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio announced his resignation in a statement, indicating that he intends to dedicate his efforts to serving the NDC and contributing to the strengthening of the country’s democratic institutions through a different avenue.

His departure comes shortly after publicly expressing interest in contesting the NDC National Chairmanship if the party’s current chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, decides not to seek another term. The development positions Vanderpuye among the early figures expected to play a prominent role in the party’s future leadership discussions.

In his resignation statement, Vanderpuye thanked President John Dramani Mahama for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the DRIP initiative, describing the appointment as both an honour and a privilege.

He highlighted the programme’s contribution to improving local road infrastructure and supporting development efforts in districts across the country. According to him, the opportunity to coordinate the initiative allowed him to contribute meaningfully to efforts aimed at improving the lives of communities nationwide.

Despite leaving the position, Vanderpuye stressed that he remains firmly committed to the vision and agenda of the Mahama administration. He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the ideals and principles of the NDC, emphasising that his resignation should not be interpreted as a departure from public service.

The former coordinator further expressed appreciation to the staff, stakeholders and partners who supported the implementation of the programme and voiced confidence that the initiative would continue to achieve its objectives under new leadership.

His resignation is expected to intensify conversations within the NDC as the party gradually prepares for future internal elections and organisational restructuring. Political observers believe the move provides Vanderpuye with the flexibility to focus on party affairs and build support ahead of any potential contest for a national executive position.

The development marks a significant shift in Vanderpuye’s political trajectory, transitioning from a key government assignment to what could become a major role in shaping the future direction of the ruling party.
