Gambia silenced Ghana 4-2 at the Accra Sports Stadium in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday.
The hosts were stunned by Johnny McKinstry’s men following a masterclass display from Gambia.
The Black Stars were hoping to put the 2-0 defeat against Ivory Coast on Thursday behind them and were already two-nil up in the 33rd minute thanks to goals from Ernest Nuamah and a sumptuous free-kick from Afena-Gyan.
Gambia swiftly pulled one back from the penalty spot through Riga FC’s Muhammed Badamosi in the 37th minute. They got their equalizer five minutes later from Omar Colley.
The Scorpions took the lead midway through the game against the run of play when substitute Ebrima Colley pounced on a defensive error to put the ball in the net.
Carlos Queiroz’s men piled a lot of pressure on Gambia to pull level but the visitors had other ideas.
A quick counterattack opened up the Ghanaian defense as Colley’s second goal administered the coup de grâce to secure a crucial victory for the Gambians.
This becomes back-to-back home defeats for Ghana in an AFCON qualifier since the 2-1 defeat against Niger.
