Liverpool dug deep to claim a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday and head coach Andoni Iraola has hailed his side after the game.
Iraola believes the Vitality Stadium is a difficult place to come and snatching the maximum points is something to write home about.
Liverpool have had a slow start to the 2026/27 season but a victory over the Cherries could be a turning point in their bid for another great campaign.
The Reds somewhat started on the front foot but had to settle for 0-0 in a very tepid first half.
A breakthrough came twelve minutes after the break when in-form Alexander Isak found the back of the net and that was enough to secure an important victory.
Speaking to the media after the game, Iraola said he knew the game would be cagey as Bournemouth are a very good side at home.
“I’m obviously happy with the result because I know this is a difficult place to come,” he said. His side struggled to find their rhythm early on, with Bournemouth threatening through Evanilson, but they eventually asserted their dominance.
“We finished the first half better and were better in the second half. It was difficult for us [at the start],” Iraola noted. “Second half we controlled much better the game and had the chances to finish it. But in the first part of the game we were not winning second balls and when they play with such intensity you have to be at that level.”
“Overall as a team it’s a third clean sheet in a row. Still things to improve but they are giving us solidity in the moments we need to defend.”
Liverpool will play their next Premier League game against Manchester City after the elongated international break.
