The Ministry of Health has officially shut down the Nursing Training College at Techiman Krobo in the Bono East Region. Officials cited persistent student unrest and a severe breakdown in institutional discipline as the primary reasons for suspending operations.
This decisive action follows weeks of escalating disturbances across the campus. Despite repeated intervention efforts by the Ministry, the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and local stakeholders—who all attempted to resolve the impasse through counselling and constructive dialogue—disruptions continued to escalate.
According to Ministry officials, a faction of the student body repeatedly engaged in unruly conduct that derailed academic schedules. These disruptive actions threatened campus safety, endangered property, and undermined the orderly administration of the institution, leaving authorities with no choice but to halt operations completely.
Ministry leadership explained that shutting down the college provides a crucial window to restore order, safeguard lives and public property, and allow security and education officials to evaluate the environment thoroughly. Authorities will conduct a full assessment of the unrest before establishing strict conditions for any future reopening.
As part of the immediate directive, health officials instructed all students to vacate the campus grounds peacefully and return to their respective homes without delay. The Ministry also advised parents and guardians to make urgent transportation and housing arrangements for their wards.
Despite the sudden shutdown, the Ministry assured students, academic staff, and the general public that officials are working tirelessly to resolve the underlying conflicts as quickly as possible. Officials noted that they will broadcast future announcements regarding the college’s reopening strictly through official government channels once conditions on campus improve and stability returns.
Finally, the Ministry appealed to parents, local leaders, and community stakeholders for their full cooperation, understanding, and support. Leadership emphasised that its ultimate goal remains establishing a safe, secure, and disciplined learning environment where future healthcare professionals can thrive without fear of violence or chaos.
