CETAG has called for a transparent investigation into the death of a lecturer at the Gbewa College of Education ,who reportedly died after an encounter with a military personnel during curfew hours in bawku.
The name of the lecturer is Abdulai Issaka,a science teacher who allegedly encountered a severe physical assault by military personnel after he was found outside during curfew hours on Friday, September 11,2026.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 14, 2026, CETAG stated that the alleged assault resulted in the lecturer, Abdulai Issaka’s death explaining the incident as deeply troubling
CETAG, the association of teachers at the college of education in bawku said, even if Abdulai had violated the curfew,that could not justify the use of the strike excessive force against him that led to his death.
This incident was very disturbing which led to the association of teachers also said speaking out against the military personnels taking the law into their hands by beating him to death .
CETAG called for a thorough investigation to establish what has happened before,during after the alleged incident.
The investigation is to identify the military personnel who brutally assaulted the lecturer
The association also reached out to the Government , the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice ( CHRAJ ),the Ghana armed forces and the other institutions related to such matters to ensure the the incident is investigated thoroughly without any interference because of anyone because of anyone’s position.
CETAG also highlighted that any person irrespective of their status should not be above the law.
They also called on the authorities to provide Abdulai’s family with the necessary support they need.
The association of teachers also appealed for calm at the Gbewa College of education, urging management to allow the investigative process to proceed peacefully.
They also extended their condolences to Issaka’s family and loved ones explaining how his loss as a painful tragedy to the teaching profession and the whole country at large.
CETAG once again stressed on the engagement of institutions to see to it that Issaka’a death is not ignored.
