Carlos Queiroz praises Black Stars after win

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has hailed his players for their determination and resilience following Ghana’s dramatic 1-0 victory over Panama in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Portuguese tactician described his team as “warriors” after they secured all three points thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Caleb Yirenkyi.

Speaking after the match, Queiroz said the players demonstrated the sacrifice and commitment required to succeed on football’s biggest stage.

“The players fought like warriors. To win at this level, you must sacrifice. A win at this World Cup is very expensive,” he said.

The Black Stars coach added that his side showed both character and intelligence in securing the late victory.

“We battled like warriors and came back and won with brains,” he noted.

Ghana’s winning goal came in the 95th minute when Caleb Yirenkyi finished off a move created by Brandon Thomas-Asante to hand the Black Stars a crucial opening victory in Group L.

According to the coach, the team remains focused on progressing beyond the group stage and will not allow the win over Panama to distract them from their objectives.

The victory has boosted Ghana’s chances of qualifying from Group L as preparations intensify for the highly anticipated clash against England.
