Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe is urging domestic airlines to reduce airfares and pass on the benefits of the government’s recent import duty exemptions to passengers.
The Minister says the decision to waive import duties on aircraft parts is expected to reduce the operating costs of domestic airlines and make lower ticket prices possible.
Speaking at the unveiling of Africa World Airlines’ new 102-seater Embraer E190 aircraft, Mr. Nikpe called on airlines, particularly Africa World Airlines, to ensure that passengers benefit directly from the savings.
He also noted that the introduction of larger aircraft could increase passenger capacity, improve connectivity and make domestic air travel more accessible to Ghanaians.
The new Embraer E190 forms part of AWA’s efforts to expand its operations and strengthen connectivity across the country.
The Transport Minister says the combination of lower operating costs and increased passenger capacity presents an opportunity for airlines to make air travel more affordable for Ghanaians.
