Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has delivered a strong message of hope to the business community, encouraging company owners and investors to spend money and expand their operations with total confidence. Speaking during a special meeting with the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and other top business leaders, Dr. Forson announced that Ghana is entering a bright “golden era” of economic growth, backed by strong government support and stable financial conditions.
The Minister explained that the government has already made great progress in bringing balance and stability back to the nation’s economy. However, the next step is to move beyond simple stability and focus on deep, long-term growth. To achieve this, the government is preparing a complete plan for national economic transformation, which will be officially revealed in the 2027 Budget. This roadmap will set clear goals for how the country will support local businesses and build a stronger, more resilient economy for everyone.
A major pillar of this transformation plan involves direct support for key industries. President John Dramani Mahama has promised to invest $10 billion into crucial sectors of the economy over the next four years. This massive investment aims to help Ghanaian factories make more products locally, add value to raw materials before export, and create thousands of good jobs for young people.
To make this vision a reality, the Finance Minister highlighted two important steps the government and businesses must take together:
Cheaper Bank Loans: The government has intentionally worked to lower interest rates, making it cheaper and easier for business owners to borrow money from banks to buy equipment, build factories, and hire new workers.
Fair Tax Payments: Dr. Forson called on local companies to pay their taxes faithfully. Increasing local tax money helps the government pay for public services and development without taking on huge debts, preventing a repeat of the heavy financial troubles seen in 2022.
Ultimately, Dr. Forson’s message to business leaders was clear: the government is doing its part to make doing business cheaper and safer. In return, he urges the private sector to partner with the government, invest boldly, and help build a prosperous future for Ghana.
