Pay 2026 Book and Research Allowance in one week or face strike – UTAG
UTAG has given the government one week to release the 2026 Book and research allowance,the association has warned that failure to do so could trigger an immediate action.
This delayed allowance which obviously supports lectures academic,teaching and research activities remain unpaid despite having fallen due,with the University Teachers Association of Ghana also prompting the government on the lack of a clear timeline for its release.
According to the union,the delay is disappointing because it suspended its planned strike in June after receiving assurances from the ministries of education and finance that its concerns would be addressed.
“Of course,in good faith, we suspended our strike. But unfortunately, that good faith has not been reciprocated by government,” the president of the university of Ghana ,Dr Jerry Joe Harrison said.
He explained that the latest decision is to give government one final opportunity to resolve the matter before the union considers industrial action.
According to him, if there is no positive response within one week, UTAG’s National Executive Council (NEC) will be eager to determine the union’s next course of action.
“This morning,he said, another statement has come out where we are categorically saying that if these issues continue for weeks, we are going to put our tools down because we think, the government has not been fair to us,”
