Authorities in the Sagnarigu Municipality have stepped up security measures following a deadly communal clash by imposing an indefinite curfew and banning the possession of weapons in the affected communities.
The Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) announced that residents of Damankunyili, Nyeshie and surrounding communities are prohibited from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons as part of efforts to prevent further violence.
The measures follow clashes that claimed the life of one person and left six others injured.
In a statement signed by the Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of MUSEC, Abdulai Imoro Gong, the council condemned the violence and extended its condolences to the family of the deceased while wishing those injured a speedy recovery.
As part of the emergency security measures, a daily curfew has been imposed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., effective immediately and remaining in force until further notice.
MUSEC said security agencies have intensified joint police patrols across the affected communities to enforce the curfew, ensure compliance with the weapons ban and maintain law and order.
The council urged residents to cooperate fully with security personnel and comply with the restrictions to support ongoing efforts to restore peace.
It also appealed to community members to exercise restraint, remain calm and resolve disputes through dialogue and other peaceful means instead of resorting to violence.
Authorities say the enhanced security presence and restrictions are intended to prevent reprisals and create a stable environment while efforts continue to restore lasting peace in the municipality.
