A pastor has been caught printing fake monies in his church
A major investigation into large-scale counterfeit currency operations in Ghana has placed Rev. Emmanuel Boakye-Danquah at the center of a nationwide crackdown. The pastor is currently wanted by the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) after security operatives discovered an illegal money-printing and storage operation running directly out of a religious facility in Klagon, located in the Greater Accra Region.
The operation came to light following a security raid on June 29, 2026. Operatives initially targeted office locations in Lashibi and Klagon, resulting in the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of primary printing equipment. Subsequent intelligence led investigators directly to the headquarters of the religious organization in Klagon. There, authorities discovered that administrative offices and residential quarters were allegedly being utilized to manufacture, store, and distribute massive quantities of counterfeit currency. During the raid at the religious site, officers seized a heavy-duty printing machine, two operational vehicles, and millions in unprinted foreign and local notes, including US$5,287,900, CFA 623,530,000, and GH¢7,129,000.
According to the NSCS, the case highlights a growing tactic among criminal syndicates, which exploit the cover of churches and religious administrative offices to shield illegal activities from public scrutiny and law enforcement suspicion.
The Klagon discovery was part of a broader, coordinated crackdown conducted between June 12 and July 24, 2026. Across six joint operations in the Greater Accra Region and surrounding districts, authorities arrested 16 suspects and confiscated four printing machines, six cars, and two motorcycles. The NSCS has since finalized its investigation and forwarded the dockets to the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice, with formal prosecution proceedings now underway at the Accra High Court, as security agencies too continue their search.
