Lampard said Arsenal were a “different level” after Coventry’s excitement of returning to the top flight was cut short on game week one.
The Sky Blues earned promotion after finishing top of the Championship with 95 points, but stepping up to the top tier is a hard row to hoe.
That harsh reality unfolded against the reigning champions, with goals from Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard handing Coventry their first defeat of the season.
Speaking to the media after the game, Lampard praised Arsenal but said he believes his team has the requisite nous to bounce back and have a good season in the Premier League.
“They’re a different level,” the former Chelsea and Derby County head coach said. “You have to give Arsenal credit. They were very, very good.
“This is the level. This is what we’ve come up against tonight.
“We’ll bounce back, it’s one game. We’ve got a long season ahead of us. We’ve got to take the positives, learn from tonight and go again.”
Coventry’s next assignment is against Plymouth Argyle in the Carabao Cup before a home game against Hull City.
