GES Debunks Viral School Selection Notice, Urges Verification of Official Updates

GES 2026 BECE school selection

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong warning to parents, guardians, teachers, and candidates waiting for the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) about a false notice claiming that the school selection exercise had officially begun.

According to GES, the widely shared announcement stating that candidates were required to select and submit five preferred schools from June 15, 2026, is completely false and did not originate from the Service.

In a statement released on June 14, GES clarified that it has not yet announced the commencement of the school selection process for the 2026 BECE cohort. The Service stressed that any information suggesting otherwise should be treated as misinformation.

The fake notice reportedly informed candidates and parents that there was no deadline for the submission of school choices and directed them to seek assistance through an unofficial WhatsApp contact. GES warned that such messages could be used by fraudsters to collect personal information or exploit unsuspecting members of the public.

The Service urged stakeholders to exercise caution and avoid sharing sensitive personal details with unknown individuals or unofficial platforms. It further advised parents and students to verify any education-related information through recognised government and GES communication channels before taking action.

GES reiterated that all updates concerning school selection, placement procedures, and related activities will be communicated through its official platforms when the process is ready to commence.

The Service assured the public of its commitment to maintaining a transparent, fair, and credible placement system for all BECE candidates. It encouraged stakeholders to remain vigilant against misinformation that could disrupt the process.

As preparations continue for the 2026 academic placement exercise, GES emphasised the importance of relying on verified information to avoid confusion, financial loss, or potential scams.
