NPP inaugurates national elections committee

The newly inaugurated National Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has promised to ensure a fair, transparent and credible electoral process.

The committee, chaired by former Suhum Member of Parliament Frederick Opare-Ansah, has been mandated to plan, organise and supervise the processes leading up to the party’s National Conference, where delegates will elect a new national executive leadership.

Speaking after the committee’s inauguration, Mr Opare-Ansah said the team was aware of the responsibility placed on it and would conduct the electoral process in accordance with the NPP Constitution and the party’s electoral regulations.

He said the committee would prioritise fairness, transparency and integrity at every stage of the process to ensure that the outcome commands the confidence of party members and stakeholders.

“We recognise the enormous responsibility entrusted to us. We are determined to ensure that every stage of the process is conducted with fairness, transparency, integrity and strict adherence to the Constitution and the rules governing the elections,” he said.

Mr Opare-Ansah said the committee’s role extended beyond simply organising an internal party election. According to him, the process would also be important in protecting the NPP’s democratic traditions, strengthening party unity and preserving confidence in its internal electoral system.

He therefore called on all aspirants, party executives and members to cooperate with the committee and comply with the established rules and procedures throughout the election period.

The committee is also expected to engage key stakeholders throughout the process, to promote openness, address concerns as they emerge and build confidence in the elections.

The National Elections Committee is made up of representatives with experience in party and public affairs. Atewa East Member of Parliament Abena Osei Asare will serve as Vice Chairperson, while Evans Nimako is the Secretary.

Other members include Oboshie Sai Cofie, Anthony Abayifa Karbo, Salam Ama Appianin Damata, Eric Ntori, the incoming Ashanti Regional Chairman following the conclusion of the region’s elections, and Frank Davies.

The inauguration of the committee signals the formal start of preparations towards the NPP’s National Conference, where delegates are expected to elect new national officers to lead the party into the next phase of its political activities.

The new national executive team will assume responsibility for steering the affairs of the party as it prepares for the 2028 general elections, making the credibility and acceptance of the internal elections particularly significant for the NPP’s future direction.
