Chairman of the New Patriotic Party in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency has called for unity between the regional executive council and the Chairmen caucus in organising the night vigil for the incarcerated NPP Ashanti regional chairman, Bernard Antwi Boaisiako
Speaking on the Orange Sunrise, Mr Kofi Oduro Kyeremanteng called for a united front to show solidarity for Chairman Wontumi. He stressed that it was important for the party to stick together and pray to support the Ashanti Regional Chairman.
“But when we are divided like this, then what kind of prayer are we even going to render to God?”, he asked.
He added that all parties needed to be on the same page on the dates and plans for the vigil to ensure a smooth event.
“We have to agree on a date so that there is no confusion anywhere, and then we will communicate that date. We cannot have 2 dates, 2nd and 14th going around”, Mr Oduro said.
The Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency Chairman clarified that the incarceration of Chairman Wontumi had not destabilised the party’s base in the region but rather brought all factions together.
“No, it’s rather bringing us together, because after that, you can see that all party people, all factions, all lines are coming together”, he stressed.
Mr Kofi Oduro Kyeremanteng also reiterated the NPP’s stance that Wontumi’s prosecution was a result of his political affiliation.
“I think if we are really going by justice, through the justice system, then Wontumi wouldn’t be where he is today, or if he is, then others must also be there”, Mr Oduro said.
This comes after the sentencing of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by an Accra High Court after being found guilty of illegally permitting unlicensed mining operations on his company’s concession at Samreboi in the Western Region.
