Deputy Head of Mission/Head of Political Section for the Czech Republic, Mr Nick Ojo Omorodion, has called for a collective approach in the fight against cybercrime.
Speaking at the launch of the National Community Media Cyber Capacity Building Project at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, September 3 2026, Mr Nick Ojo Omorodion said cybersecurity was the collective responsibility of individuals and institutions.
He reiterated the importance of cybersecurity awareness, saying the training session in Kumasi was particularly necessary to nationalise cybersecurity issues.
“Ti kro nkc agyina (two heads are better than one). Cyber resilience cannot be built by only one institution, one profession, or one country alone. It requires public institutions, security experts, journalists, and communities to work together,” he said.
Professor Eric Opoku, head of the Computer Engineering Department at KNUST, also acknowledged the importance of cybersecurity awareness within local communities.
He said that while it is important to invest in advancing technologies and AI innovations, it is equally important to educate people on steps to take to ensure maximum security.
“ We can develop all the secure systems, but the humans who are supposed to use the systems are supposed to have the required information on how to use them”, he said.
The Cyber Security Authority engaged media professionals on how to protect data and stay security-conscious on the internet.
They also raised concerns about the increasing cases of sextortion, especially among children, stressing that children were protected by law.
The authorities revealed that exchanging nude pictures of children via social media platforms was an offence and entreated participants to be mindful when dealing with underage children.
The cybersecurity authority emphasised that technological advancements and social media exposure had made it critical for parents to play an active role in controlling and educating their wards
The National Community Media Cyber Capacity Building Project was done in collaboration with the Africa Centre for Digital Transformation and the Embassy of the Czech Republic.
