The New Patriotic Party’s National Organiser hopeful, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, says the party must strengthen its grassroots structures now to keep voter apathy from affecting its performance in the 2028 elections.
According to the former Greater Accra Regional Minister, the NPP should begin its mobilisation efforts from the polling station level and ensure that supporters remain engaged ahead of the next general election.
Speaking to Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV’s *Face to Face* on Tuesday, September 15, Mr Titus-Glover said the party’s leadership structure had been expanded from five to seven officers.
The positions are Chairman, Secretary, Organiser, Youth Organiser, Women Organiser, Communication Officer and Electoral Affairs Officer.
He wants the officers to immediately take their mobilisation efforts to the grassroots and reconnect with party supporters.
“They need to go on the ground and start mobilising our people up. And for me, that is the key. Elections are won there. That is where the elections are declared,” he said.
Mr Titus-Glover linked part of the NPP’s electoral defeat to low turnout among its supporters, arguing that several factors could contribute to voter apathy.
“There are so many factors that will culminate in apathy. But hey, we’re in opposition. You don’t want to remain in opposition like that,” he said.
He said his engagements with delegates across the 16 regions had reinforced his view that some NPP supporters failed to turn up to vote.
“As I move around the 16 regions talking to delegates in all the constituencies, I keep telling them, it is because you do not come out to vote. That is why we are where we are.”
Mr Titus-Glover further argued that a higher turnout among NPP supporters could have improved the party’s electoral performance.
“The President had an additional 100,000 votes, not because he did so much magic. If our people had come out to vote, we would not be where we are now,” he said.
He also admitted that the party made mistakes and said those shortcomings must be addressed as part of efforts to rebuild the NPP.
“So clearly we admit we might have done some few mistakes. Let’s take that in our stride and come out,” he said.
Mr Titus-Glover described the polling station as the starting point for the party’s grassroots organisation.
“The polling station structure, that is where the work is. It is right at the base,” he said.
He is therefore calling for the party’s reorganisation to begin immediately, while urging the leadership to address concerns among supporters following the electoral defeat.
“So if we don’t start to organise ourselves immediately, that is where the issues will start coming up. They may have that genuine concern, but we need to reassure them now. We have moved on. We have learnt our mistakes. What do we do going forward?” he said.
