Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of planning to aggressively use misinformation and disinformation to hold onto power in the 2028 general elections.
Afenyo-Markin claimed that the NDC would rely on fabricated stories and manufactured distractions to shift public attention away from the government’s perceived failures on national issues.
He argued this wasn’t a new tactic, claiming the NDC had used similar approaches while in opposition, pushing claims that were later found to be inaccurate or misleading.
He called on Ghanaians to stay alert and critically examine information they encounter, and urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, officers, and communicators in particular to remain disciplined and vigilant ahead of the 2028 vote.
He pressed party members to verify claims and respond quickly to what they view as falsehoods, rather than letting opposing narratives set the political agenda.
Afenyo-Markin also urged the NPP to stay focused on highlighting what he called the government’s unfulfilled promises and the everyday hardships facing citizens, while rallying behind former Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s vision for the country as the party works towards the coming election.
