A commercial transport driver, Abubakar Fuseini, and his mate, Majeed, have been arrested by the Ashaiman Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) for charging passengers fares above the approved rates.
After the arrest, many people started complaining about unapproved fare increases by some transport operators.
Passengers at various stations have expressed frustration, saying the unreasonable fares are adding to their financial difficulties.
Some individuals also claimed that mates insulted or threatened to drop them off when they questioned the increased fares.
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has stated that no official increase in transport fares has been approved.
The union criticised drivers who increase fares on their own, saying such drivers are acting illegally and will face strict legal action.
The suspects are currently in police custody, are helping with ongoing investigations, and will soon be processed for court.
