The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has opened an investigation into the conduct of a police officer captured in a viral video during a confrontation with a member of the public at the Akomadan Police Station.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Friday, July 3, 2026, has generated widespread public discussion after footage of the altercation circulated on social media, raising concerns about police professionalism and public engagement.
In a statement issued on Saturday, July 5, the Regional Police Command confirmed that the officer seen in the video has been identified and is currently under internal investigation.
According to the Police, investigators are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident before any disciplinary or administrative action is taken.
The Command also reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to professionalism, discipline and accountability, assuring the public that further updates would be provided once the investigation is concluded.
The investigation follows allegations by a complainant who claimed he visited the Akomadan Police Station to file an official complaint but was ignored by the officer on duty.
According to his account, the officer remained focused on her mobile phone instead of attending to him, prompting him to begin recording the interaction on his own phone.
The complainant alleged that the situation escalated after the officer noticed she was being filmed. He claimed she ordered him to stop recording before kicking his mobile phone to the ground during the confrontation.
He further alleged that the officer threatened to assault him with a stone, an accusation that has intensified calls for a transparent investigation into the matter.
The viral video has since attracted significant public attention, with many social media users urging the Police Service to ensure accountability and reinforce standards of professionalism when dealing with members of the public.
