Aspiring national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awentami Paul Afoko, says the party has a strong chance of returning to power in the 2028 general elections. According to him, the absence of a long-time political opponent from the 2028 ballot presents the NPP with a unique opportunity to effectively market its presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, whom he described as experienced, well-known, and capable of winning the election.

Afoko noted that the NPP can repeat its 2016 success and reclaim power if the party remains united and focused on its objective. Speaking during meetings with regional executives, patrons, and party elders in the Volta, Oti, and Eastern regions, he stressed that unity is essential to achieving victory.

“For the first time, we have a unique opportunity. This time, the sitting president will not be on the ballot, and that gives us a real chance. However, without unity, we will not succeed,” he said.

Afoko urged party members to set aside personal differences and work together, emphasizing that emotions and internal divisions could undermine the party’s chances. Promoting his 3R Agenda; Reunite, Rebuild, and Recapture Power, he said the NPP must adopt a clear message that restores public confidence. He expressed confidence that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the right candidate to lead the party to victory in 2028.

Afoko also explained that although he had supported the party quietly for years, recent developments motivated him to take a more active role in helping the NPP return to its winning path.

He concluded by expressing optimism that party members would unite behind a common goal and work towards making Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the next president of Ghana.
