Nyinahini Catholic SHS Teacher Arrested Over Alleged Assault on Student

Nyinahini Catholic SHS

A teacher at Nyinahini Catholic (SHS)Senior High School has been arrested after a viral video showing an alleged assault on a female student triggered widespread public concern and prompted an official investigation by the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The arrest was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Daniel Fenyi, who disclosed in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, that the matter had been referred to the relevant authorities for investigation.

According to Fenyi, the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has commenced inquiries into the incident and is expected to submit a comprehensive report to the GES headquarters.

The incident gained national attention after footage circulated on social media appeared to show the teacher physically confronting a female student on the school’s campus. In the video, the teacher is seen repeatedly striking the student before allegedly lifting and throwing her to the ground.

Several witnesses who were present during the confrontation on the Nyinahini Catholic SHS campus could be heard pleading with the teacher to stop, reminding him that the individual involved was a female student. However, the teacher, who appeared visibly agitated, responded by questioning whether the student herself was mindful of her conduct.

While the circumstances that led to the confrontation remain unclear, the incident has generated intense debate about student welfare, discipline practices, and the responsibilities of educators within Ghana’s educational institutions. Neither the authorities of Nyinahini Catholic SHS nor the GES have revealed the circumstances that led to the confrontation.

The arrest has been welcomed by many members of the public, who have called for a thorough investigation and appropriate sanctions should the allegations be substantiated. Child rights advocates and education stakeholders have also renewed calls for schools to adopt disciplinary measures that protect students’ rights and safety.

The Ghana Education Service has assured the public that the matter is being treated seriously and that due process will be followed. The findings of the ongoing investigations are expected to determine any disciplinary action by educational authorities, as well as possible legal proceedings.

The case has once again highlighted concerns about violence in educational settings and the need to ensure that schools remain safe environments for teaching and learning.
