The Member of Parliament for Madina, Dr Francis-Xavier Sosu, has urged Ghanaian authorities to launch a full investigation after French customs officials seized a large cocaine shipment traced back to Ghana.
According to the reports, the French authorities at the port of Dunkirk discovered nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine hidden inside a container of plastic waste that had arrived from Ghana. Estimates of the drugs’ value vary between $225 million and $260 million.
Dr Francis-Xavier Sosu, who is in charge of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, said Ghana’s international standing should not be destroyed by individuals’ illegal profit-making avenues.
He said a thorough investigation should be conducted into the shipment and urged authorities to bring anyone found as a culprit.He described the country’s reputation as a national asset that must be protected through transparency, accountability, and strict law enforcement.
The MP also praised President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government for positioning Ghana as a respected player in global diplomacy, and commended Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for promoting the country’s image as one of integrity and democratic leadership in Africa.
Dr. Sosu stressed that the wrongdoing of a few should not tarnish the reputation the nation has worked hard to build internationally.
