Ghanian rap icon Sarkodie has issued a passionate plea to his fanbase, SarkNation, urging them to reject online toxicity, unnecessary rivalry, and hate, while calling on a new generation of followers to emulate the loyalty and focus of the movement’s early days.

In a candid statement shared on his social media platforms, the BET Award-winning artist reflected on the origins of his core fanbase, acknowledging their role in pioneering modern Ghanaian fan culture while expressing concern over the growing hostility in online music discourse.

“SarkNation birthed many of the fanbase trends we see today, and I don’t take that for granted. The core mandate was always simple: project and protect the Sarkodie brand. Nothing else,” Sarkodie stated.

Paying tribute to early supporters, he highlighted how the first wave of SarkNation built the foundation of his career through positivity and dedication. “Big shout-out to the day ones — the first wave of SarkNation. You guys positioned the brand where it belongs with commitment, loyalty and, most importantly, without toxic energy. That foundation will always mean something to me,” he wrote.

Addressing the rising culture of social media “fan wars” and online trolling, Sarkodie urged fans to ignore baiting tactics and keep their focus strictly on supporting the music.

“A true SarkNation member shouldn’t be consumed by what another brand is doing. Focus on the brand you love. No hate. No bitterness. No unnecessary competition,” he emphasized. “You don’t have to tear someone else down to prove your loyalty to Sarkodie.”

Acknowledging that growth naturally brings dilution, the rapper cautioned fans and fellow musicians alike against believing that hostile behavior equals genuine loyalty. He warned artists to be wary of individuals who incite negativity purely for clout and social media engagement.

“To the artists: just because a fan shs on another brand to elevate you doesn’t mean they love you more. Be careful about entertaining that energy,” Sarkodie cautioned. “They may look like they’re fighting for you, but they genuinely don’t give AF about you.”

While acknowledging that passionate fans can sometimes be provoked into emotional responses, he urged the modern iteration of his fanbase to draw inspiration from the movement’s roots.

“I think the new SarkNation crop should look back at the old crop and bring back some of those traits. We never entertained toxic energy. The focus was always the music, the movement and the brand,” Sarkodie noted, concluding with deep gratitude for his supporters: “I know I’m still here because of God, SarkNation and hard work, so I never joke with you guys. I appreciate y’all more than you know.”
