Strong leadership and genuine collaboration are redefining healthcare in the Bole-Bamboi Constituency. By tackling long-standing operational hurdles head-on, Medical Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Wadeyir Abesig and Member of Parliament Hon. Alhaji Yussif Sulemana are delivering concrete solutions to the Bole District Hospital.
In a major breakthrough for local healthcare delivery, Hon. Sulemana recently donated a powerful 250kVA standby generator to the facility. This massive upgrade guarantees an uninterrupted electricity supply, bringing immediate relief to patients, medical staff, and hospital administrators after years of battling unpredictable power cuts.
For years, blackouts forced the hospital to rely on two smaller, separate generators. This fragmented system complicated medical procedures, delayed service delivery, and placed intense strain on dedicated staff.
Since taking office in 2022, Dr. Wadeyir has relentlessly advocated for critical infrastructure upgrades. “This is one of the most difficult challenges that has confronted this hospital for years,” Dr. Wadeyir noted. “Since I joined in 2022, we have never had a generator capable of powering the entire hospital. Today, that challenge has become history.”
The achievement highlights the swift responsiveness of Hon. Sulemana. Less than a month after hospital management raised power concerns, the MP mobilized his personal network of colleagues and friends to secure the equipment.
“This generator is not coming from my Common Fund, and it is not coming from my National Health Insurance Fund,” Hon. Sulemana explained. “It is from my own sources through the support of my friends and colleagues, because we want to use our relationships to help our communities rather than for personal gain.”
To ensure rapid deployment, Hon. Sulemana engaged the District Chief Executive and pledged to cover a major portion of the installation costs. He also praised the hospital staff for their unwavering resilience, noting that workers consistently give their best despite severe constraints.
This strategic partnership extends far beyond reliable electricity. The leaders are aggressively expanding the hospital’s emergency response capabilities and facilities. Hon. Sulemana announced that a new ambulance will arrive soon, while construction crews prepare to roof an ongoing hospital infrastructure project.
Dr. Wadeyir confirmed customs will clear the new ambulance on August 4, after which technicians will install essential medical equipment. The additional vehicle solves a dire emergency referral crisis. Dr. Wadeyir recalled a painful incident where two critically ill patients required urgent transfer simultaneously, forcing distraught families into a heartbreaking dispute over the hospital’s single ambulance.
“We need another ambulance now more than ever,” Dr. Wadeyir emphasized. “With this additional ambulance, we will be able to transport critically ill patients promptly and provide the emergency care they deserve.”
By aligning visionary medical leadership with proactive political action, Dr. Abesig and Hon. Sulemana are proving how focused partnerships can build a stronger, safer, and more resilient healthcare system for Bole-Bamboi.
