The Association of Liberal Muslims-Ghana has condemned in strong terms the tragic killing of Chief Abdul-Malik Azenbe, who was shot dead at his residence near the community center at Asawasi F-Line in Kumasi.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the group expressed sorrow over the incident and extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Kusasi fraternity, and the wider community. Describing the killing as “gruesome” and “regrettable,” the association said the act poses a serious threat to peace and public security.

“We urge the general public to remain calm and allow the police and security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter,” the statement said. “We caution against hasty conclusions or attempts to link the incident to any tribe, group, or ethnic conflict, as there is no evidence supporting such claims.”

Muslim Community Appeals for Peace and Swift Justice

The group called on the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly and professionally to arrest the perpetrators, stressing that delays in justice could escalate tensions and spark retaliation.

The Association reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, democracy, and the true values of Islam, while expressing solidarity with the family and all those affected by the killing.

“We sympathize with the family of the late Chief and all affected persons while we await the security agencies to do their job,” said Mr. Umar Harris, Executive Secretary of the Association of Liberal Muslims-Ghana.

The incident has sparked concern within the community, and residents are urging authorities to increase security presence in the area to prevent further unrest.
