E-levy removal takes effect March ending – Thomas Ampem

The Deputy Finance Minister, Thomas Ampem Darko has stated that the Electronic levy(E-levy) removal would be effective ending of March 2025, in wait for the approval of the 2025 budget by Parliament.

He said this in an interview on Channel One TV, while adding that right when the budget goes through due process the e-levy removal would be implemented.

“It will take effect the moment the budget and the appropriation is approved, and that will be by the 31st of this month.“So all things being equal, from April you will see that all things will be done,” he stated.

The E-levy has faced a lot of opposition from various concerned organizations, and even the general public since its implementation by the previous government.

In the presentation of the 2025 budget by the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, government proposed the scraping off of the e-levy, and betting tax, which caused an exciting stir in the country, especially among direct beneficiaries of this initiative. Parliament is however yet to approve the budget for implementation.

During the National Democratic Congress(NDC)’s campaign ahead of the 2024 elections, they promised the removal of various taxes, including the e-levy, and this is a step in fulfilment of their promises.
