Heavily armed men, some allegedly dressed in police and military uniforms, overran the Sokoban Palace (Krofrom Adumasa) in the Ashanti Region, stealing the sacred black stool, gold, and other valuable items. The attack, which occurred yesterday, left the women of Sokoban Krofrom in tears and flashed suspicions of a possible link to an ongoing chieftaincy dispute.

Eyewitnesses reported that the armed men stormed the sokoban palace while the newly seated chief and family members were at the Manhyia Palace swearing an oath of allegiance. Before their return, the attackers had already broken into the palace and made off with the esteemed black stool and other valuables.

In Akan culture, the black stool symbolizes authority, leadership, power, and spirituality, depicting the history and values of the royal family. The loss of this sacred object has left the community overwhelmed.

“We were here when six heavily built men armed with machetes and guns surrounded the sokoban palace, broke through the metal gate, and stole the black stool and other items,” a family member recounted.

The attackers also vandalized the palace, breaking down doors and damaging property. Elderly men who tried to confront the intruders were reportedly beaten, while women mourned as the thieves ransacked the palace.

Fearing further violence, family members have called on security agencies to interfere. Police have since visited the scene and launched an investigation into the incident.
