The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested three people in Ghana over their alleged links to an international drug trafficking network.
The suspects are believed to have been working with Joseph Johannes Leijdekkers, also known as “Bolle Jos”, a Dutch national and one of Europe’s most wanted drug traffickers.
Leijdekkers is wanted for his alleged involvement in large-scale cocaine trafficking, violent crimes and contract killings. The arrests in Ghana follow the seizure of a large cocaine shipment by French customs officials.
The three suspects are currently in NACOC custody and are assisting investigators to determine their exact roles in the alleged drug trafficking operation.
Leijdekkers has been convicted in the Netherlands and Belgium. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison in the Netherlands for international cocaine trafficking and ordering a murder.
A court in Rotterdam also found that he had made more than 126 million euros from criminal activities and ordered him to repay about 96.7 million euros.
In another case, a court in Dendermonde, Belgium, sentenced him to eight years in prison for importing about 11,000 kilograms of cocaine.
