Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of the Glikpome Basic School headteacher in Akatsi

Authorities are piecing together the final hours of a basic school leader after an akatsi headteacher was found dead in an Akatsi guest house on Tuesday. The tragic event unfolded just as the deceased’s wife and local education directors arrived at the police station to file a missing person report.

A housekeeper at the Joli Bebe Guest House found 44-year-old Selorm Kwaku Tettey, the headteacher of Glikpome Basic School, lying motionless on a bed at approximately 10:00am during routine duties.

the discovery followed a frantic search by the deceased’s wife. After falling to reach her husband by phone, she reported his disappearance to the Municipal Education Directorate. While she and the Municipal Director of Education, Karim Ayaana Umar, were filling a formal complaint at the Akatsi Municipal Police Command, news of the guest house discovery reached the station.

Local Assembly Member Wonder Gatepe rushed to the scene after guest houses staff alerted him. He noted that police retrieved a bag containing educational materials, a mobile phone, canned malt drinks, and personal belongings from the room. Gatepe confirmed that the body showed no visible signs of physical assault.

Authorities have also dismissed fast-spreading social media rumors regarding the incident. Preliminary findings indicate that Tettey checked in with an adult woman in her late 30s, debunking by a student.

The sudden passing of the educationist, popularly known as “TK”, has sent shockwaves through the Akatsi South Municipality. Colleagues and friends have widely described Tettey as an intelligent, dedicated, and hardworking leader.

Police have deposited the body at the St. Paul’s hospital morgue for preservation and an autopsy to determine the exact cause of his death. Investigators have made no arrests so far as they continue to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
