Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey appeared in court today to overturn Canada’s decision preventing him from participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The plea, which sought a favourable ruling that would allow him to join his teammates in time for the tournament, has been granted.
Earlier reports suggest that Ghana was optimistic about the outcome, as multiple legal avenues are being pursued to challenge the ruling that has so far kept Partey from entering Canada.
The legal strategy included an appeal for restricted entry, a request for a review of the immigration decision, and a fresh application seeking reconsideration of the case.
Thomas Partey’s absence would have been a major blow to the Black Stars ahead of their opening World Cup fixture against Panama on June 17.
The experienced midfielder has been a key figure for Ghana in recent years, providing leadership, composure, and stability in the heart of midfield.
