Wealth Creation Through Investment

dr evans duah
Dr. Evans Duah

In a recent episode of the “Women Lately” show, Francisa Taylor sat down with Dr. Evans Duah for an eye-opening conversation about wealth creation and smart investing. Their discussion was packed with practical advice and perspectives on wealth creation and how to make your money work for you. If you’re looking to boost your finances and thrive in the world of investments, this conversation is a must-listen. Let’s get into a breakdown of the key takeaways.

What is Wealth?

Dr. Duah kicked things off by redefining wealth. To him, wealth isn’t just about having a lot of money; it’s about having the resources and opportunities to achieve more in life. He put it simply: “Wealth is anything that helps you do more and achieve more.” He also made an interesting point about money and poverty, that they are both tools and how you use them can shape your future.

The Right Mindset for Wealth

Dr. Duah emphasized that understanding the “language of wealth” starts with the right mindset. He said that money flows more to those who truly value it. His advice? Think of money as something that should flow through you and to you. In other words, treat money as a resource that helps you achieve your goals, not just something to spend.

Beyond Saving: Why Investing Matters

Creating wealth isn’t just about piling cash up in a savings account. Dr. Duah stressed the importance of investing. “When you create wealth, it doesn’t end there. Don’t just save, invest,” he said. He pointed out a common issue: many people are great at spending but aren’t sure how to earn or invest wisely. This lack of knowledge can prevent them from building lasting wealth.

Smart Tips for Investing

Dr. Duah offered some fantastic advice for smart investing even for children:

  • Start Early: Think long-term. Open investment accounts for your children and start buying stocks for them on their birthdays. Don’t wait until they’re older to think about their financial future.
  • Real Estate: Don’t just build properties for your children to live in; consider investing in rental properties as well. This approach can create additional income streams and increase the overall value of your investments.

The Education System and Financial Independence

Dr. Duah also highlighted a crucial point about the education system. He believes it’s designed to produce employees rather than entrepreneurs. To succeed, you need to go beyond what’s taught in schools. “Think outside the box and seek additional knowledge,” he advised. It’s up to you to invest in yourself and learn more about financial independence and wealth creation.

Investing without understanding what you’re putting your money into can be risky. Dr. Duah advised, “Don’t invest in what you don’t understand.” He emphasized doing thorough research, consulting experts, and thinking carefully before making investment decisions. Opportunities often lie in areas that others might overlook, so stay informed and pay attention.

Final Thoughts

Dr. Duah wrapped up the interview with a strong message on personal development. “Add more value to yourself. Read widely and take courses,” he said. Investing in your knowledge and skills is just as important as investing money. He also recommended his book, The Intentional Wealth, which is available on Amazon and for delivery in hardcopy. It’s packed with more tips and strategies for building wealth.

Marriage Ordinance in Ghana: Legal Implications

Marriage ordinance in Ghana

The institution of marriage is a complex one. To address its legal complexities, lawyer Emmanuel Osei Adu joined host Theresa Flora on the Beulah Hour show for a discussion on the legal implications of marriage.

Lawyer Emmanuel explained that a breach of the promise to marry can lead to legal action. He emphasized that while a court cannot force anyone to marry if someone promises to marry you and then breaks that promise without just cause, you can take them to court.

He, however, explained that it is not every relationship that can give cause to this action. For example, if a couple acts as though they are married and one party later decides not to marry, there is a cause of action. He noted, “Sometimes you don’t even have to wait, we call it an anticipatory breach of promise to marry. The person promised to marry you in March, and in February he married someone else under the ordinance. You can take an action against the person”.

He also mentioned the “non-performance” breach of a marriage contract, which occurs when the time comes for the marriage but one party decides not to proceed for various reasons which is no fault of yours.

In Ghana, a non-performance breach of a marriage contract typically refers to a situation where one party fails to fulfil their obligations as stipulated in the marriage contract, such as not intending to fulfil promises made.

Highlighting prenuptial agreements as well, he shared his insights on how this agreement is enforceable.

Top 10 Oral Hygiene Tips 2024—Orange Health Lounge Show

Oral hygiene tips

On a recent episode of the “Orange Health Lounge” show, Dr. Kwasi Baffour Gyimah hosted Dr. Philip Boadi Frimpong, who shared invaluable oral hygiene tips for maintaining excellent oral health. The discussion was engaging and packed with practical advice that everyone could benefit from. Here’s a rundown of the highlights from their conversation, ensuring you and your family maintain happy and healthy oral health.

Oral hygiene tips

Oral Health Tips

1. Choosing the Right Toothbrush

Dr. Frimpong emphasized the importance of selecting the right toothbrush based on age:

  • For Adults: Medium bristles and flossing are recommended. Soft brushes are not suitable as they may not effectively clean adult teeth.
  • For Children: Soft brushes are appropriate, and if their teeth are very close together, they can floss as long as they allow it.

2. The Right Brushing Time

How long should you brush your teeth? Dr. Frimpong recommends 2-3 minutes to ensure thorough cleaning. This duration helps remove plaque and prevent gum disease effectively.

3. Regular Dental Check-Ups

Many people only visit the dentist when there’s a problem, but Dr. Frimpong advises regular check-ups. He mentioned that sometimes eating out at a restaurant can be more expensive than a dental visit. Regular visits help prevent issues before they become serious, saving you pain and money in the long run.

4. Importance of Using Fluoride Toothpaste

Using toothpaste with fluoride is essential for preventing tooth decay and gum disease. Dr. Frimpong emphasized that children are more likely to swallow toothpaste, and if the fluoride concentration is too high, it can cause complications. He advised children should use toothpaste specifically designed for their age.

5. Toothpaste Expiry and Usage

Toothbrushes and toothpastes don’t last forever. According to Dr. Frimpong, toothbrushes should not be used for more than three months. You must be sure to check the expiration date to ensure you’re using effective toothpastes.

6. Understanding Tooth Sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity often occurs when the second layer of the teeth is worn off. If you experience consistent sensitivity, it’s essential to visit a dentist promptly to prevent further damage.

7. Frequency of Dental Visits

Dr. Philip Boadi Frimpong recommends visiting the dentist at least twice a year. These regular check-ups are essential for keeping your teeth and gums healthy. They help catch problems like tooth decay or gum disease early before they become serious. By going to the dentist every six months, you can ensure any issues are spotted and treated on time, keeping your smile in great shape and avoiding more complicated treatments later on.

8. Bleeding Gums and Gum Care

Seeing blood when you brush is a red flag. Dr. Frimpong emphasized that if this happens, you need to visit a dentist. Also, you do not need to brush your gums; focus on your teeth instead.

9. Electric Toothbrushes

Electric toothbrushes are a good investment if you can afford one. They can offer more efficient cleaning compared to manual brushes. However, maintaining your toothbrush is equally important. Keep it in a safe, airy place, free from insects.

10. Brushing with Hot Water

“Is it okay to brush with hot water?” one commenter asked. Dr. Frimpong advised that lukewarm water is sufficient and safer for your teeth and gums.

Wrapping Up

Dr. Frimpong’s insights on the “Orange Health Lounge” show provide a comprehensive guide to maintaining optimal oral hygiene. By following his advice on choosing the right toothbrush, brushing correctly, and visiting the dentist regularly, you can ensure a healthy mouth and a happier body.

Kwapia R/C Basic School Celebrates BECE Graduation and Honors Former Headmaster

Kwapia R/C Basic School has celebrated a significant milestone with a joint ceremony commemorating the graduation of its BECE students and bidding farewell to its former headmaster, Mr. Robert Addai Kwarteng.

Mr. Kwarteng, who also served as the Abedwum Sanaahene, expressed his gratitude during the sendoff ceremony, which was attended by members of the community and well-wishers.

During his address, Mr. Kwarteng raised concerns about the troubling trend in the Kwapia community, where a growing number of male students are dropping out of school to engage in illegal mining, known as galamsey.

He identified quick money as a factor leading young men to forsake their education, resulting in a concerning gender imbalance at the school.

With 34 years of teaching experience, including seven years as headmaster, Mr. Kwarteng has witnessed firsthand the detrimental effects of galamsey on the youth in the community.

Despite the school’s proud history of producing notable leaders, such as Hon. Andrews Amoako Asiamah, the second deputy speaker of parliament, the current trend poses a threat to the community’s future prospects.

As part of the event, students participated in a debate contest on the topic “For preferred excellence, private school is better than government school.”

Gyasi Agyapong Ellen emerged as the principal speaker against the motion, ultimately winning the debate.

Mr. Kwarteng supported the stance against the motion, stressing the success stories of individuals who received their education in government schools.

The current headmaster, Mr. Samuel Ansah, echoed the concerns raised by his predecessor regarding the high number of male students abandoning their education for illegal mining activities.

He urged parents to intervene and guide their sons back to school, underscoring the importance of education over immediate financial gains during this crucial stage of their lives.

Mr. Ansah also stated the school’s need for a modern computer lab to align with the demands of today’s technology-driven education system.

He called for support from the government and relevant stakeholders to help equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge for success in the evolving educational landscape.

Shared Blessing Alliance Supports Nkukuasa Basic School with Essential Learning Materials

The Nkukuasa Basic School in the Assin North District of Ghana’s Central Region has received a heartwarming boost from the Shared Blessing Alliance (SBA), a charitable organization dedicated to making a positive impact in deprived communities.

Excitement filled the school grounds as SBA donated essential learning items to the students.

The donation included sanitary pads, school bags, exercise books, pens, pencils, and other educational materials, as well as treats like drinks and biscuits.

The donation ceremony was attended by a mix of old students, community members, teachers, and the School Management Committee (SMC).

Mr. Ewuah Mensah, the leader of SBA, shared that the organization’s mission is to support teachers and students in underserved communities.

He noted the vital role educators and learners play in shaping the future and stressed the importance of community support in achieving educational goals.

The generous donation was made possible through the support of sponsors like Madam Naomi Beyeemang Frimpong, SGT Armand Bianca, and SGT Tandoh Therese, whose contributions were instrumental in bringing hope to the children of Nkukuasa Basic School.

Millicent Morrison, the headmistress of the Nkukuasa Basic School, and the SMC expressed deep gratitude for SBA’s kind gesture and that the items will go a long way to improve teaching and learning in the school.

Miss Morrison also appealed for the completion of the kindergarten classroom block which has been abandoned for years to create a conducive learning environment for the children.

Mr. Theophilus Ampomah Amoah, representing the SMC, extended gratitude to the SBA team and sponsors for their generosity.

The event, coinciding with the school’s vacation, brought joy to the students as they interacted with the SBA team and received gifts.

The teachers were also honored for their hard work, receiving tokens of appreciation to inspire them in their noble profession.

KMA Compensates 303 Individuals in Asafo Sewage Treatment System

In a bid to address the challenges facing the Asafo Sewage Treatment System in the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area (GKMA), the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and the World Bank, has compensated 303 individuals affected by the malfunctioning system.

The sewage treatment system, which stretches from parts of Kumasi Technical University to Labour Roundabout, Asafo Market to Pentecost Church, and Asafo Township to Abinkyi, has been facing issues with chocked chambers, hindering the proper disposal of fecal matter to its final destination in Abinkyi.

The system, originally constructed in 1994, has been in need of reconstruction to address these challenges.

Under the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP), the affected individuals were compensated in accordance with the World Bank’s Involuntary Resettlement Policy (OP 4.12) and relevant Ghanaian laws and regulations.

The compensation amounts varied, ranging from 900.00 cedis to 450,000.00 cedis based on valuation.

Hon. Samuel Pyne, urging the affected individuals to vacate the area within three weeks to make way for the reconstruction efforts, emphasized the importance of addressing the issues plaguing the sewage treatment system to ensure the proper management of liquid waste in the area.

The compensation of the affected individuals marks a significant step towards improving the sanitation and water management infrastructure in the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area, ultimately benefiting the community at large.

FOMWAG Launches Community Literacy Project in Ashanti Region

The Federation of Muslim Women Association of Ghana (FOMWAG) has introduced a community literacy initiative in the Ashanti Region aimed at enhancing the academic prospects of children.

The project is set to support five districts and municipalities in the region, including Asokore Mampong, Ejura, Adugyama, Bosomtwe, and Oforikrom, with the goal of strengthening the literacy and numeracy skills of approximately 300 children.

The Community Empowerment through Child Literacy Project seeks to bolster community-led initiatives by volunteers in partnership with the Ghana Education Service to help improve the literacy skills of girls and boys from class 2 to 6 in five underprivileged schools in the Ashanti Region.

Children, particularly girls in Primary 3 to 6 in basic schools within the target communities, are facing challenges in communicating in English and grasping age-appropriate mathematics and numeracy concepts.

Class tests, exercises, and End of Term Examination results from the schools in the target communities have highlighted a literacy crisis, with children struggling to communicate in English and understand age-appropriate mathematics and numeracy concepts.

Data from the schools reveal that around 70% of these children are grappling with fundamental reading and writing skills.

Moreover, a significant number of girls are not actively participating during lessons, either by not answering questions or asking for clarification, indicating a lack of self-confidence.

Following the launch, Regional President Kabirat Ahmed Salihs stated that in collaboration with the Star Ghana Foundation, the project aims to enhance the literacy and numeracy skills of children across the beneficiary communities.

She stressed the importance of addressing the challenges faced by learners in reading, writing, expressing themselves in English, and understanding numeracy concepts.

“The essence of the project is that, we’ve realised that a lot of learners in our communities have difficulty in reading and writing and also expressing themselves in the English Language. Some of them also have challenges with numeracy, so we’re trying to see how we can solve this challenge,” she noted.

Kabirat further expressed the crucial role parents play in ensuring their children’s academic success by monitoring their academic progress and performance, either independently or by engaging with teachers.

Samson Anawine, the Asokore Mampong Municipal Director of Education, underscored the significance of literacy and numeracy in children’s academic development, stressing the need of cultivating a reading habit of children to pursue their educational interests effectively.

“Literacy is critical for our survival, there’s no option than to encourage our children to be able to read so that this country can grow,” he said.

He commended FOMWAG for their dedication to supporting education in the Municipality.

Nana Yaw Akuoko, the Otumfour Asenehene of Sepase, urged parents to monitor their children’s activities, especially on social media, and guide them on the television programs they watch to safeguard their academic aspirations.

He expressed concern over the negative influence of parental behavior on children, stating the need for responsible conduct to shape positive behavior in children as they grow up.
