Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has dismissed claims that former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, is being held in a private facility or receiving special treatment while serving her sentence.
Speaking on Wednesday, June 24, the minister stressed that Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu remains in the lawful custody of the state under the supervision of the Ghana Prisons Service.
His remarks follow growing calls from opposition lawmakers seeking clarity on the exact location where the former MASLOC boss is serving her sentence after her conviction in the MASLOC-related fraud case.
Mr. Muntaka, however, argued that the government is under no obligation to disclose the specific prison facility housing high-profile inmates, citing security concerns.
“Maybe in Ghana, we take telling people where somebody is serving lightly, because in America and other countries, revealing where a high-profile person is being held can even endanger that person’s life. So it’s for safety,” he said.
He further assured the public that Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu is serving her sentence as required by law.
“Trust us, she’s serving her term. She’s not in any private residence. She is with us,” he stated.
Questioning the basis of the allegations, the minister added, “Was she not sentenced? She was. If she were sentenced, where would she be? You must be in prison custody.”
Mr. Muntaka also noted that anyone seeking to verify her whereabouts or arrange a visit can do so through the established procedures of the Ghana Prisons Service.
