Jeremy Doku Officially Becomes Ghanaian Citizen, Receives Passport

Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku has officially received his Ghanaian citizenship and passport.

The 23-year-old Belgian international, born in Antwerp to Ghanaian parents, currently plays for Belgium’s national team. Despite his allegiance on the pitch, Jeremy Doku has taken a significant step in strengthening his personal and cultural ties to Ghana.

Citizenship Granted to Jeremy Doku at Personal Request

Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, confirmed that the passport was issued following a request by Jeremy Doku and his family. The minister announced the news via social media, revealing that the Ghanaian passport is chip-embedded for added security.

“Jérémy Baffour Doku receives a Ghanaian passport for the first time,” Ablakwa wrote. “This was the wish of Jérémy and his family when they called on me last week — glad we successfully delivered chip-embedded passports today. As a dual citizen he is legally entitled to a Ghanaian passport.”

Jeremy Doku now holds dual citizenship, which grants him unrestricted travel access to Ghana. This legal status also opens doors for him to engage more deeply in cultural and national programs.

Warm Reception of Jeremy Doku During Ghana Visit

During his recent visit to Ghana, Jeremy Doku held high-level meetings with prominent national figures. He met with Ghana’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, to discuss matters believed to relate to youth development and football.

Additionally, Jeremy Doku and his family visited the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, where they were received by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The visit emphasized Jeremy Doku’s strong cultural ties and the warm welcome he continues to receive from Ghanaian leaders.

Jeremy Doku’s dual citizenship marks an important milestone in his life and heritage journey.
