Garden City University (GCU) has combined the celebration of academic excellence with a transition in leadership, graduating a new cohort of postgraduate students while formally installing Professor Eric Kwasi Ofori as its new Vice-Chancellor.

The two landmark events took place during the University’s 18th Congregation Graduate Session at its Kenyase campus in Kumasi, bringing together members of the Governing Council, academic staff, students, alumni, traditional leaders, clergy, families and guests.

The ceremony honoured postgraduate students who completed their programmes, recognising their academic achievements and their readiness to contribute to national development across various professional fields.

Delivering his first address as Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eric Kwasi Ofori urged the graduates to pursue excellence beyond the classroom by embracing innovation, ethical leadership and lifelong learning. He encouraged them to use the knowledge and skills acquired at the University to develop practical solutions to challenges facing Ghana and the wider global community.

He stressed that integrity, professionalism and a commitment to public service would remain essential qualities for graduates seeking to make meaningful contributions in their careers and communities.

The graduation ceremony also featured a valedictory speech by Haggar Boahemaa, the formal conferment of postgraduate degrees, a vote of thanks and the dissolution of the congregation.

Professor Ofori’s investiture marked the beginning of a new leadership era for Garden City University. With more than 20 years of experience in higher education, he has served in teaching, research and university administration at the University of Ghana, the University of Health and Allied Sciences, and the University of Cape Coast.

University officials described the occasion as a significant milestone that reflects GCU’s commitment to strengthening academic leadership while maintaining high standards in teaching, research, entrepreneurship and community engagement.

The institution reaffirmed its mission to produce graduates equipped with the knowledge, technical competence, and leadership skills needed to drive innovation and sustainable development. It also reiterated its commitment to promoting academic excellence, effective governance, social inclusion and community service as key pillars of its long-term growth.

As the newest graduates prepare to enter the workforce, Garden City University expressed confidence that they will serve as ambassadors of the institution and contribute positively to Ghana’s socio-economic development.
