YVONNE NELSON REVEALS HER FIRST DREAM

Yvonne Nelson has revealed that her childhood dream was to become a rapper, not an actress or filmmaker.

Appearing on The Career Trail, Yvonne Nelson shared memories from her high school days. She said she belonged to a rap group inspired by the Fugees and saw herself as the group’s Lauryn Hill.

“I wanted to be a rapper. Back in school, I used to rap a lot,” Yvonne shared during the interview. She looked forward to school entertainment events, as they gave her chances to showcase her rap skills.

However, Yvonne Nelson’s dream shifted after a chance meeting with filmmaker Abdul Salam at Afrikiko in Accra. She recalled that Abdul Salam approached her, took her number, and later invited her to a movie set.

Yvonne Nelson revealed that she didn’t even audition for a role before starting her acting career. That surprise encounter eventually led to her breakout role in the film Princess Tyra, launching her into stardom.

She also admitted that her acting journey wasn’t easy, especially balancing school with her rising fame. While studying at Central University, she faced the challenge of managing academic pressure and shooting schedules.

One of her toughest moments came during a shoot with veteran actor Kofi Adjorlolo, who criticized her performance.

“He got angry because I was forgetting lines. He walked out and said I was wasting their time,” she recalled. Instead of feeling defeated, she saw the incident as a push to grow and improve her acting skills.

She emphasized that she had to learn on the job and gain confidence in her own abilities. Although her rap dreams didn’t materialize, Yvonne Nelson said she’s grateful for the path she eventually followed.

“Life happens. Destiny happens. I ended up where I was meant to be,” Yvonne Nelson said with gratitude.
