The Suntreso District Police Command has arrested two young men in connection with a violent street robbery that occurred at Kwadaso Estate in Kumasi on the morning of Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
The suspects, identified as Issah Abdul, 22, and Abdul Rahman, 20, were apprehended following swift police action after they allegedly attacked a female pedestrian near the Alignment area around 5:45 a.m.
According to a press release from the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters, the suspects, who were riding an unregistered blue Royal motorbike, approached the victim as she was heading out. One of the men, wielding a machete, forcibly took her handbag, which contained a Samsung smartphone valued at GHS 2,000 along with other personal effects.
Dropped Mobile Phone Cracks Street Robbery Case in Kumasi
In a twist of fate, one of the robbers accidentally dropped his Samsung phone at the scene of the robbery. The victim retrieved the phone and submitted it to the police as evidence.
Utilizing this lead, the Suntreso Police, through intelligence-led operations, traced and arrested the suspects at Sofoline, where they were found with the said motorbike. A search conducted on them led to the recovery of Four assorted mobile phones,GHS 1,690.00 in cash.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and took police investigators to Suame Magazine, where the machete used in the robbery had been hidden. The weapon was retrieved and has since been retained as evidence.
The police confirmed that the following items have been kept as exhibits ,Five assorted mobile phones,One unregistered Royal motorbike,One machete,Cash amount of GHS 1,690.00
/Authorities say they will apply to the court for the remand of the suspects, and an identification parade will be organized to determine if the pair were involved in other similar robberies in the Kumasi area.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety and has urged victims of robbery to report incidents promptly to aid investigations.
