Three Armed Robbers Jailed in Kumasi After Community-Led Arrest

Three young men who took part in a violent daylight robbery at Boubai in the Asokore Mampong Municipality have been convicted and sentenced by the Atasemanso Circuit Court in Kumasi.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed that the suspects Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari, all aged 18 were found guilty on multiple count of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. The incident occurred on July 1, 2025, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

According to a police statement, the trio, along with three others still on the run, used two unregistered motorbikes and machetes to attack residents of Boubai. They made away with several mobile phones, cash, and bags.

Community Vigilance Leads to Swift Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Items

Their arrest came just hours later, thanks to the swift intervention of community volunteers who located the suspects hiding in Aboabo. The volunteers handed them over to the police, along with ten recovered mobile phones and three stolen bags.

The suspects were arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on July 8, where they all pleaded guilty to seven counts of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Mamudu Issah additionally admitted to a charge of causing harm.

The court sentenced Mamudu Issah to ten years in prison for each robbery charge and three years for causing harm – to be served concurrently. Samuel Takyi and Alhassan Abubakari also received ten years each, with their sentences running concurrently.

All three have since been transferred to the Central Prisons in Kumasi to begin serving their terms.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command commended the community for their vigilance and assistance. “We express our appreciation to members of the public, particularly the community volunteers, for their swift response and cooperation,” said DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit.

He further urged the public to remain alert and continue supporting police operations by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
