His Excellency John Dramani Mahama visited the Central Business District, Adum-Kumasi fire scene to access the severity of damage caused after fire gutted shops in the early hours of today Friday March 21, 2025 destroying millions of goods and properties.
During his visit, accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the president engaged some traders and victims of the fire and pledged support to them.
President Mahama requested that investigations be conducted into the fire outbreak. He also reiterated the need for swift action and assistance to those whose livelihoods were affected by the fire outbreak.
He also cautioned traders in the area to desist from using gas cookers in their shops to cook and keeping them as they can be a major cause of fire outbreaks.
The fire outbreak has left many traders affected heartbroken and hopeless. Though the Ghana Fire Service tried to manage and prevent the fire from spreading wildly, the extent of damage was still dire as they did not get direct access to the fire scene because of the market layout.
The President’s visit to the area stirred up excitement in the traders and they expressed gratitude to him for his act of empathy.
