The Ghana Police Service has stopped a planned robbery in Accra after acting on intelligence from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters.

The operation took place on Monday, July 15, 2025. Police had received information that five armed men were staying at a hotel in Labadi and planning to rob a foreign national at Cantonments.
While the suspects were on their way in a Toyota Yaris to carry out the robbery, they noticed police officers following them. They quickly opened fire on the officers and shot one of them.

Suspects Open Fire, Two Shot Dead in Shootout
The police returned fire, shooting two of the suspects. Both were rushed to the Police Hospital but were later confirmed dead.
The injured police officer was hit in the legs and underarm. He is currently in the hospital and is said to be responding well to treatment.
At the scene, police found two pump-action guns loaded with ammunition, live cartridges, three mobile phones, talismans, and other items.

Three of the suspects escaped, and police say a manhunt is ongoing to arrest them.
The police have assured the public that they are working hard to keep everyone safe and have asked for help from anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects.
