The Ghana Police Service has taken disciplinary action against an officer who was captured on video assaulting a journalist during the Ablekuma North parliamentary re-run election.

In a press release on Friday, the police said the officer has been taken off election duty. He will no longer be part of the team working at the election.
The police also said the officer has been interdicted. This means he has been stopped from working while an investigation is carried out.

Journalist Assaulted at Polling Station
The incident reportedly took place during voting at the Church of Pentecost, North Odorkor Polling Station 2, where the journalist, Agyekum Banahene of GHOne TV, was allegedly slapped by the officer while attempting to report from inside the polling area.
The police say the case has been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for a full investigation.
“We would like to assure the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the matter and further updates will be communicated,” the statement said.

The Ghana Police Service emphasized its commitment to upholding professionalism and protecting the rights of all individuals, including journalists, during national duties such as elections.
The interdiction comes after Banahene expressed concern over his safety and announced plans to officially report the assault.
