One suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of Stephen King Amoah, an Immigration Officer who was recently reported missing.

According to a press release issued by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, the officer was declared missing on July 4, 2025, and tragically, his severely burnt body was discovered on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, in a gutter near the GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate in Accra.
Police say the discovery was made early Wednesday morning, after which the body was conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue.
Officers from the Taifa Police Station were later joined by a complainant and six family members of the deceased, who, despite the extent of the burns, were able to positively identify the body as that of Amoah.
The release noted that investigations revealed Mr. Amoah had left his residence at Ashongman Estate around 8:00 p.m. on July 3, after receiving WhatsApp messages containing images of large sums of money from a man identified as Bright Aweh.
The messages allegedly came with a request to meet at a local spot within the same area to settle an outstanding financial matter.
However, Amoah never returned home that night, and his phone remained switched off, prompting a missing person report.
Murder Linked to Mysterious Cash Meeting Raises Fresh Questions
Following police operations, suspect Bright Aweh was arrested. During questioning, he admitted to having handed over GH¢500,000 in cash to the deceased.

He claimed the money was to be partly used to settle debts, with the remainder to be held for future retrieval. Police say the suspect could not clearly explain the source of the funds and gave conflicting statements, raising further suspicion.
The Accra Regional Police Command strongly condemned the act, describing it as a violent and criminal attack against a public official.
The statement assures the public that investigations are ongoing and that all individuals found complicit will be brought to justice.
“The Command strongly condemns such violent and criminal acts and assures the public that it is working diligently to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this incident and bring all responsible persons to justice,” said Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region.
