A group of Okada riders in Offinso Kokote, located in the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has staged a demonstration to protest against alleged police extortion in the area.

Emmanuel Fobi, the secretary of the Okada Riders’ Association in Offinso Kokote, told the media that police officials have repeatedly intimidated their members and extorted money from them without any justification.

He noted that, motorcycles have provided many local youths with employment opportunities, especially given the lack of jobs in the country.

The situation escalated on Wednesday morning when nearly 20 motorcycles were reportedly confiscated by the police and taken to their office.

This action angered the riders, prompting them to protest, which they described as inappropriate.

The riders are urging the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and the government to intervene before the situation becomes worse.
