The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, to its disciplinary committee for violating a directive barring members from discussing issues that cause disaffection within the party in the media.
A statement issued by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong stated that Adwoa Safo’s comments on Joy News’ Pulse Show directly contravened the party’s directive. The directive, he explained, instructed all members to refrain from making public statements that create unrest or negativity within the party.
“As a former Member of Parliament, former Deputy Majority Leader, and former Minister of State under the erstwhile NPP government, she was expected to set a good example and adhere to the principles of discipline, loyalty, and unity that have always defined our great party,” the statement said. The party noted that her comments also breached Article 3(5) of the NPP’s constitution, which requires members to defend and promote the party’s good name.
As a result, the former lawmaker has been referred to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee for further action.
Adwoa Safo had earlier criticized the NPP’s committee investigating the party’s 2024 election defeat, calling it “bogus.” She also cautioned against blaming the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for the loss.
Speaking on Pulse Show on Thursday, March 20, she ruled out contesting the Dome-Kwabenya seat again. “Considering everything I have been through and how I have been treated, I don’t think so,” she stated.
She added, “I have served for 12 years and left a good legacy. I won’t contest again.” Instead, she expressed interest in the Speaker of Parliament position and other higher political roles.
Adwoa Safo also predicted that the NPP would bring back Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.
