National Cathedral to feature Ghana’s cultural heritage- Dr. Opoku-Mensah

Dr. Paul Opoku-Mensah, Executive Director of the National Cathedral project, has highlighted widespread misunderstandings surrounding the initiative’s true purpose.

He is working to correct misconceptions and showcase the potential benefits of the cathedral, such as revenue generation and the promotion of Ghana’s cultural heritage.

However, the government’s efforts to support the project have been met with substantial opposition.
Critics have questioned the appropriateness of government involvement and raised concerns about transparency in the project’s financial management.

During a symposium organized in collaboration with TD Jakes’ Divinity School, Dr. Opoku-Mensah emphasized the broader significance of the National Cathedral.

He explained that the event aimed to showcase the positive impact the cathedral could have on both the community and the nation.

“The symposium is conceived as the National Cathedral’s response to Ghana’s return initiatives, offering a faith-based pathway to connect Ghana with the African diaspora,” he said.

He added that the collaboration aims to foster a Pan-African community, working together to address Africa’s historical, racial, and theological contributions.

“We seek to highlight the National Cathedral’s role beyond just a physical church. It is a platform for critical national, continental, and global conversations,” Dr. Opoku-Mensah stated, addressing misconceptions about the project.

He also congratulated TD Jakes’ Divinity School for its efforts in engaging students across the African continent.
